The purpose of this role is to meet and engage with an assigned senior in the community and team members to support the WrapAround process. Jennifer Bowen will be the morning key note speaker on Saturday, April 25 in Woodstock. Jennifer will speak on Understanding Anxiety and Depression, looking at both disorders—their causes, symptoms, treatments—and their impact on the individual and his or her relationships. Jennifer will also address how faith communities relate to these issues as a community, and where there is room for growth. On October 24 Mark Vander Vennen participated on a panel entitled “Healthy Schools: A Panel Discussion on Mental Health Issues in Christian Schools at the Edifide Teacher’s Convention (http://www.ocsta.org/educators-convention-2014/), held at Redeemer University College in Ancaster, Ontario.
We are pleased to offer a Solution-Focused Therapy Workshop: Assumptions and Interventions that Support Short-Term Work on Thursday, October 10, 2013 in Hamilton. Susan Winter Fledderus, M.Ed., RMFT, R.S.W., CSFT will lead the workshop. This workshop is appropriate for counsellors, social workers, and marriage and family therapists who want to increase their skill in applying the Solution-Focused model in their clinical practice.
This training is part one of a two-part training, the second of which will be held in the Spring of 2014.These two days of training can be used together in place of one of the modules in the University of Toronto’s Certificate program in Solution-Focused Counselling.

On October 5th, Shalem celebrated 50 years of restoring hope. Our special guests for the evening were Author Paul Young of “The Shack” and Singer, Songwriter Jacob Moon. Paul Young spoke to us on the topic “The Gospel and Mental Health“. We celebrated hope found even in the midst of pain.

Many clergy joined us on April 11, 2013 as we learned from Dr. Marta Durski about sexual addiction and the church.
Those who attended gained a better understanding of:
- The nature and prevalence of sexual addiction
- How sexual addictions can impact a church
- How the church can respond when a member discloses a sexual addiction
- How to support spouses/ family members/ congregations affected by sexual addiction
- How to protect pastors and church members from sexual addiction

Perspectrum is a collaborative art project between students from RE-create Outreach Art Studio, Hamilton District Christian High School, and Notre Dame House School. Michelle DeBoer will present Caring for the Caregiver at the Day of Encouragement on October 20, 2012. Knowing the roles, challenges, and supports of the caregiver helps to recognize signs of compassion fatigue and caregiver burnout. Through interactive dialogue, participants will examine various approaches to caregiving, understand limitations, and develop realistic expectations.
