New Space, New Grace

PRINT

Issue: Fall 2019

WrapAround has moved again! We enjoyed being in the office at Shalem’s main site for many years, but it became very apparent that the clinical team desperately needed more space.

We were blessed by a gracious benefactor and supporter of WrapAround who stepped in to help with the offer to cover the rent of an additional space. After many meetings and planning sessions we moved into our new office, located at Indwell in the Dr. John M. Perkins Centre down the road from Shalem’s main office. We are most grateful to Indwell for our new Partnership Agreement with them. Our new address is 1429 Main St. E, situated just past Kenilworth Avenue in Hamilton.

The past few weeks involved packing to move to our street-level, front-of-the-building office. We extend our gratitude to everyone who gave their time and effort to help with the move.

The new office is small, but spacious enough for Elske and Mary to work in comfortably.  We also have access to a wonderful meeting room that has already shown to be an excellent space for training purposes, and a small storage space in the basement.

With a move comes adjustments and sorting. The best part and the biggest challenge were to purge down the volume of paperwork that had been accumulated, and to find storage for the materials required for the various events that WrapAround holds, plus the WrapAround Ontario materials. Shalem graciously offered some basement storage space at the main office as well, and we are in the process of organizing and storing everything neatly.

Being at Indwell affords a new opportunity to work with people who live in or are otherwise connected with that organization. We have already bumped into a resident of one of the units who is a former recipient of WrapAround. She was really excited to know that we had moved in and we are happy that we can catch up with her, hear her story and see that she has landed well!

Having a visible presence where we can “hang our shingle” is very new for us and we look forward to seeing just what opportunities and doors this will open up for us going forward.

Check out our website for further information on the WrapAround process and how you can be involved in this community-owned and community-driven initiative. You can also email Elske or Mary, or reach them at the office phone number: 905-320-8373. While most of the work happens out in the community, our office is open Monday to Friday from 9:30 to 12:30.

Mary Charles, RSSW, is Shalem’s WrapAround Administrative Support and Coordinator of Seniors Wrap
