Counselling Clinic Update

PRINT

Issue: Spring 2015

Shalem’s counselling offices in Hamilton and Durham continue to be busy this winter.

In our Durham office, June Zwier has resumed her clinical work after a leave of absence last year. The team welcomed her back, and we are enjoying working with a refreshed and energized June. We had missed her contributions to our team meetings, and are excited to have her joining us again.

We’d like to congratulations Michelle deBoer on the birth of her newest son, born in February! Michelle will be on maternity leave for the upcoming year. While her absence has already been felt in our team of therapists, we are celebrating with her and her family during this joyful time.

We’re very happy to announce that Matt Penman has joined the team for 2015 to fill Michelle’s shoes. A social worker with experience both in hospital and children mental health settings, he has already demonstrated his comfort in working with Shalem’s youth and their families, as well as with other clients. We appreciate his passion for the therapeutic process!

Our team is expanding again with the addition of Shawn Groen. Originally with Shalem in a temporary role as an extern, Shawn has now accepted a position as Clinical Therapist with the team, and will continue to see clients in the Hamilton office. We value the warm, calm and inviting presence he provides for our clients.

Our counselling staff continues to be busy, offering workshops to organizations and churches in the Hamilton area on issues of mental health.  This work has included providing support after crisis in the workplace, as well as preventative learning to help churches and organizations become more aware of mental health needs in their communities.

Planning has begun towards a professional training conference for 2016, continuing our Cradle To Grave event in 2014. You’ll have to tune in later in the year for details, which we will share as they become available!
