2019 continues to be a year of growth for Shalem’s Counselling Centre. As are all mental health providers, we are so grateful for clients who choose our Hamilton office when they are seeking out counselling services.
To meet the increasing demand, we hired a new therapist for our team this past Spring. Natasha Longmire joined us in the role of part-time therapist, coming to us from a rich background of research work and studying public health policy. She recently completed studies at OISE in Toronto. Welcome Natasha!
Our team also supports new professionals in their learning. We are happy to be continuing our work with students, and are welcoming Jennifer Watt to our team this Fall in the role of intern. Glad to have you!
I’m preparing this as August is winding up. Looking back, I see how the summer has become a time of year that our staff has grown to value. Not only do most of us try to get away from the office for vacation, but it’s also the time when Shalem staff tuck away in a relaxing space to do some studying/refreshing through our In-Service Training.
This year, our In-Service training plans changed abruptly when a rain storm pulled in, leaving us unable to hold our planned outdoor retreat. Instead we found welcome dry space at Ancaster CRC (thank you!!). We watched the storm pass while we studied the Enneagram with Sue Hamilton, a local Spiritual Director.
The Enneagram is model of personality and growth that comes with much history, and is one that many of our clients deeply value. It’s impossible to learn about this tool professionally without thinking about its many uses in one’s own life. It was a great day of both new clinical ideas and personal reflection.
As a clinical team, we continue to meet together regularly for team meetings and supervision, which serve to deepen and enhance the clinical work and build strong relationships within the team, enabling us to better care for those who walk through our doors. So much to be grateful for!
