Sometimes mental health needs are best met in a counselling office. But sometimes they are best met when and where they emerge—right in communities themselves. That’s why Shalem works to develop new, innovative partnerships between communities (like congregations, workplaces, neighbourhoods and schools) and the professional mental health sector.
With the exception of RE-create, Shalem’s Services in Communities are available across Ontario—and beyond. Our supports work with you to restore hope…
…when we can’t deal with our problems without support
Congregational Assistance Plan (CAP) – locating mental health decision-making at a community level, CAP helps churches provide their members with counselling sessions from local, professional Christian therapists. The Counselling Assistance Plan for Students (CAPS) helps schools do the same for students. Clergy Care offers specialized counselling for pastors and their families. The Employee Assistance Plan (EAP) enables workplaces provide counselling sessions to employees and their families.
…when harm affects us
Restorative Practice – repairing harm, restoring relationships in neighbourhoods, faith communities, workplaces, schools and families.
…when our needs are overwhelming
WrapAround – empowering neighbourhoods, churches and communities to effectively support people and families struggling with overwhelming challenges.
…when life puts us on the streets
RE-create – a drop-in art studio engaging street-involved youth in downtown Hamilton.
