Reviewing the Restorative Framework: Developing WITH relationships

PRINT

Issue: May 2019

A key to the restorative framework is understanding and developing WITH relationships. WITH relationships are built through clear, realistic expectations coupled with the necessary support to meet those expectations. WITH relationships form the basis of relational and community health. WITH relationships don’t just happen. They take work. We have to be explicit and intentional about developing them.

Sometimes we don’t act WITH. When we find ourselves in the TO, FOR or NOT box, we stop and think about what got us there and find a way into the WITH box. This usually involves respectful conversation to explore what’s happened, how people have been affected and together find a way forward.

How are you doing at developing and maintaining WITH relationships? When you find yourself in the NOT, TO or FOR box can you find your way back to the WITH box? Got stories to share about developing WITH relationships?
